STEPHEN J. HEWITT, DOSteve graduated from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1990. He spent the first five years in his profession working alongside three doctors and an orthopaedic surgeon at a private clinic in Newcastle upon Tyne before opening his own practice there. Eight years later, in 2003, captivated by the stunning countryside that shapes the Three Counties region, he moved to this area and took over Ledbury Osteopathic Practice.
He was first introduced to osteopathy at the age of 16 having injured his back whilst gardening. As various members of his family had already benefited from osteopathy, it seemed the natural line to follow to resolve his own problem. That experience and the “hands on” approach to treatment inspired him to become an osteopath.

Steve has attended many post graduate courses over the last three decades ranging from sports, nutrition, orthopaedics and psychology. A primary avenue of interest is how to read the language of the body. This has led to gaining an understanding of Goethean science and how to work with the body as a whole (which is different to working on the whole of the body).
Steve sees every patient as unique. Although he may have seen their specific condition many times, it is the person to whom the condition is attached and their individual response to treatment that he finds so absorbing. He enjoys the diversity of a family practice treating patients of all ages from babies to the elderly and everyone in between, and the varied challenges each patient brings.
With thirty years of experience in private practice, Steve remains just as impassioned and enthusiastic with osteopathy. Every patient increases his experience and knowledge.
In his spare time he enjoys reading, gardening, occasional golf and exploring the countryside with his partner and their 3 dogs. He also keeps a small flock of rare breed pedigree sheep and has become an “unwitting” stable lad for 2 horses on his smallholding.
